Masala Chai (Spiced Tea)

Prep Time – 2 min          Cook Time – 10 min          Total Time – 12 min          Serves – 3 to 4

  1. 2 cups of plain water
  2. 2 tablespoon tea powder or tea leaves (not teabags)
  3. 2 tablespoon sugar or as per requirement
  4. 1/2 cup milk or as per requirement
  5. 1.5 inch ginger grated (can add more if ginger is not fresh)
  6. 2 or 3 whole cardamom or 1/2 tablespoon cardamom powder
  7. 1 or 2 cloves

  1. Peel & grate the ginger and keep it aside
  2. Crush the whole cardamom and clove and keep it aside
Masala Chai 
  1. Heat water in a pan on medium heat
  2. Add the sugar
  3. Add the grated ginger and crushed cardamom and cloves
  4. Once the water starts boiling add the tea powder
  5.  Brew this mixture on medium flame for 5-7 mins
  6. Once you can smell the aroma add milk
  7. Let it simmer for 2-3 mins.
  8. Once it boils switch off the flame
  9. Strain the tea and pour it into a cup or a glass
  10. Serve the Masala Chai with biscuits or snacks
  • You can get cardamom powder mixture from any Indian store but home made is always much more authentic
  • If ginger isn’t available you can use dry ginger powder however the flavor and aroma would change.
